Risk Management capabilities.

Tactise ISSoW gives you the ability to have multiple Risk Assessment (RA) types. It defines the risks, hazards and controls that have been identified for a specific job. The purpose is to eliminate or reduce hazards / risks through the use of mitigation and suitable control measures.

Work steps and hazard identification are assembled into a unified solution to assist clients to assess, check and confirm controls. The system supports work control document creation whilst keeping all documents in a controlled package of work with instant access to information.

ISSoW process

Special attention is provided on all ISSOW documents status transactions to ensure authorization, issue, work execution and other states are handled correctly. The system is a formal recorded process used to control work and to ensure that proper consideration is given to the risks of a particular task, including potential impact to and from simultaneous activities.

System has functionality allowing to plan and track assurance activities such as permit and certificate audits, process audits and reviews. 

Work Control Documents such as Risk Assessment, Permits and Isolation are fully integrated to ensure the means of communication between site personnel, facility management, supervisors and operators and those who carry out the potentially hazardous work.

Isolation Management


Incidents occur when a person is exposed to a source of uncontained energy. During plant work there are many sources that could cause harm, such as pressure, heights, mechanical and electrical. Properly designed plant and equipment have inherent safeguards such as physical guards, heat insulation, safety interlocks and pressure release valves. Under normal operation the plant functions safely by virtue of the inherent equipment and process design. However, there are many situations when non-routine work such as maintenance requires that these normal safeguards are removed or altered in such a way that a person could be exposed to a hazardous source of energy. High-risk activities rely on competent people doing the work, as well as a set of temporary controls such as isolations, personnel protective equipment, and standby personnel.

Isolation is the separation of plant and equipment from sources of energy (pressure, electrical and mechanical) in a secure way allowing work to be safely performed. Isolations are critical when people perform non-routine work in hazardous environments. Isolations are typically physical barriers put in place to prevent exposure to sources of harmful energy. Examples would include a slip plate between two flanges, a valve locked open or closed, and an electrical circuit isolated by racking out the switch gear. 

Isolations are normally temporary in nature as they relate to non-routine work. Management of isolations can become quite complex, particularly when multiple isolations are required for a job, and multiple overlapping jobs are taking place simultaneously in the same area. The system of managing isolations needs to be both simple and robust.
Tactise ISSoW plays a critical role in managing the complexity and improving the integrity of the process. 

The greater the potential hazard, the more effective, secure and controlled the isolation should be. Where a number of options for risk reduction exist, you must use the lowest-risk option that is reasonably practicable. 

Oil refineries, oil and gas production installations and chemical processing plants are characterized by long lengths of continuously welded pipework and pipelines connecting process vessels, plant and installations. The contents are often hazardous substances, which may be flammable and/or toxic and are often at high temperatures and/or pressures. Any intrusive activity could allow the escape of hazardous substances. The implementation of adequate isolation practices is critical to avoiding loss of containment. 

Incident analysis confirms that human failures cause, or are involved in, a large proportion of isolation failures. The performance of isolations depends not only on the integrity of the isolation hardware, but also on the adequacy of the arrangements for identifying each isolation point, securing the isolation, proving/monitoring and maintaining overall control of work. ISSoW training and competencies

Tactise offers training program which aims to provide learners with a broad understanding of the ISSoW, the different types of Risk assessments, Work Control Certificates, the general and specific roles and responsibilities, as well as the procedural steps involved in an ISSoW. The program focuses on the rules, roles and responsibilities and legislative compliance involved in operating a Safe System of Work. The program is not intended to replace specific ISSoW software training. Successful completion of the courses within the program means that there will be no need to undertake any further site-specific ISSoW courses.
