*MoC is an essential component in managing every aspect of company activities when implementing changes. Change can concern assets, facility, hardware / software and operations of facilities; an organisation or an element of it, as well as data, drawings, and documents update.
The goal of MoC processes is to maximize benefits and minimize risk of the change negative impacts on workers and avoid distractions. Some changes can directly affect all departments from the entry-level employee to senior management. Implementing recent developments, new technologies and processes with associated risks of undesirable events, the entire company must learn how to handle these new changes to the organization.
Examples of changes which may require MoC process
In the modern business environment, organizations face rapid changes like never before. Globalization and the constant innovation of technology result in a constantly evolving business and operational environment. The growth in technology also has a secondary effect of increasing the availability and therefore accountability of knowledge. With the business environment experiencing so much change, organizations must then learn to become comfortable with change as well.
Therefore, the ability to manage and adapt to changes is an essential ability required in the business today.
MoC entails thoughtful planning and sensitive implementation, and above all, consultation with, and involvement of people affected by the changes. If you force change on people normally problems arise. Change must be realistic, achievable and measurable.
The MoC process contains the sequence of steps that should be followed. Most changes processes have the following phases:
The requirement for change is recognized. A decision is made on whether the change has to follow the MoC process. MoC request is initiated.
The MoC request is screened by appropriate personnel (Experts) who agree the need for MoC and the priority by which the MoC request must be dealt with.
Risk assessment. The type of risk assessment used will vary depending on the type of change and the level of risk likely to be incurred.
The MoC request and detailed risk assessment are approved by the decision makers (management).
If approval is given, the change can be installed through the appropriate business process (e.g. construction, procedure update) to a fully worked solution.
MoC is closed out and archived.
Review is carried out to check whether MoC process works well.
